Janmashtami (Lord Krishna) History
According to mythology, Lord Vishnu is an incarnation of Krishna, and Lord Krishna was born to destroy Kansa.
Lord Krishna was born on the eighth day in Mathura and was the son of Devaki and Vasudeva. At the time of his birth, Mathura was ruled by his maternal uncle Kansa, who killed his sister's children. According to the prophecy, Devaki's eighth son will cause Kansa's downfall. After a warning, Devaki and Vasudeva were imprisoned and Kansa killed his first six children.

Balarama, Devaki's seventh child, was transferred from the womb to princess Rohini at birth. Then on the eighth day When Lord Krishna was born, the whole palace was asleep and his father Vasudeva took the child to Nanda Baba there. They were placed in Yashoda's house in Vrindavan.
On his return, Vasudeva came back with a baby girl and handed her over to Kamsa and she transformed into Durga and warned Kamsa of doom.
Thus Lord Krishna grew up in Vrindavan and then killed his maternal mama kans.
